Nicholas is 1!

My little guy Nicholas turned the big 1 yesterday!  I can't believe he is already a year old...this past year has just flown by, relatively speaking.  We had fun celebrating his birthday with him, and he was in a pretty good mood all day long.  Brandon had his Air National Guard drill weekend up in Columbus, so we didn't get to spend much time with him until about 5:15, but Nicholas and I had a great time together!  In the morning, he was content to sit in his high chair and talk to me while I was making cupcakes and doing the dishes.  After I got him down, he was more than happy to dance with me for a bit...until I got the cupcakes out of the oven.  After an unguarded moment on my part, Nicholas managed to snatch a cupcake that I had set aside for him anyway, and immediately gobbled it up! After taking a nap (both of us!) we quickly got things pretty clean around the house and then my mom, Sarah (sister-in-law), and her two girls, Emily and Connor, showed up to help out with things.  We made pirate hats and eye patches and a treasure map for a game we never ended up playing, but we had fun making everything at any rate!  After Brandon and his family showed up, we had dinner, present-opening, and cake-eating.  Nicholas was much more keen on simply playing with new toys than actually opening the presents or even eating cake, but somehow we got him to do those things, too!  We love our little guy so much and are so grateful every moment of every day for the wonderful gift he has been for us in our lives!  Happy Birthday, Nicholas!
