First Flight!

Last week we took a whirlwind trip to Utah for my brother Christopher's wedding.  Nicholas has never been on a plane before, so we were not quite sure what to expect.  We thought we would keep him awake all day long before our evening flight, in the hopes that he might then sleep on the plane.  It was a good plan...in theory.  Once we got to the airport, Nicholas was just as excited as could be to see all of the planes and to watch all of the people rushing past us to get to their flights.

We eventually got him to sit in his stroller and attempted to calm him down.  Despite how it may look, this didn't really work!

Fortunately there were only 9 people, plus Nicholas, on our flight to Chicago.  Brandon took Nicholas to the row of seats across from us and let him play around on the seats for a bit.  The second flight to Salt Lake didn't go as smoothly.  It was completely booked, and Nicholas was completely tired!  He slept for 2 hours and cried for about 30 minutes!  With it being almost 11 PM, we figured most people around us would be annoyed, but everyone was really nice to us.  They even went as far as to say that he was such a good little boy!  I'm pretty sure they were just being polite, but we appreciated it!

Our return flights went much better...he was asleep before takeoff both times and slept for nearly the entire flight each time!  We still don't think we'll be doing much flying with him for a few more years, though!

  1. 30 minutes of crying isn't that bad! Just ask Jason, he's been on many flights with kids screaming much longer than that. I love the picture of Nicholas folding his arms, it's so sweet!

  2. Our first (and to date only family) flight was similarly insane. The flight to Houston was okay, but then from Houston to SLC same thing - it was late, and the kids were fussy (One kid was 2 and one was an infant). We finally got them to sleep but then when we landed and the lights came on and they started screaming. Of course we were on like the last row of the plane so as everybody was debarking kids are just screaming. The bottles of course were checked so we couldn't get that either...

  6. Yeah Nicholas! I think he did fairly well for his first flight. I'm glad that Lorenzo was able to make the flight and help him out!

  7. I HATE flying with kids. I get so anxious that they are going to cry the whole time and drive everyone crazy. I'm glad he did so well.

  8. Good thing everyone was nice about it!

We are taking a trip this week also. I hope Ashlyn falls asleep! I always get so nervous when Ashlyn starts screaming and crying in public places.
