Laugh It Off

There are many times when you just have to laugh about things or else you'll cry.  This morning one such incident occurred around here.  We don't have a dishwasher, or at least we don't have an automatic dishwasher.  I do all of our dishes by hand.  Brandon will help out, too, when he's around for dinner or doesn't have class or homework to do.  It has been somewhat crazy around here lately, so I haven't been able to do dishes as much as I usually do.  This means that we had a lot of dishes to be done this morning because someone from one of Brandon's classes is coming for dinner tonight.  While I was doing the dishes and talking on the phone to Brandon, Nicholas very quietly climbed on top of the kitchen table.  Foolish Rebecca forgot to put Renae's rice cereal away, so Nicholas figured he'd be allowed to play with it.
And he dumped it all over the nice clean dishes that I had drying on the table.  I hate doing dishes, so when I saw that I would have to re-rinse some of them, I was devastated.  Then I realized that about 1/3 of a perfectly good box of cereal was gone.  Such a waste.  I hate wasting things.  I am proud of the fact, though, that instead of losing my temper, which would have been so easy to do, I decided to instead take a photo.  Now I can whip out this picture in later years to remind Nicholas why he has to do the dishes or something like that.

  1. Great job keeping your cool Rebecca. Something similar happened here the other day when Kennedy got into my lotion and rubbed it all over her legs and the floor. I took a picture of her. :-)

  2. Wow, that would have been really frustrating for me too!! I washed dishes all growing up every day until I moved to college, so I know how that is!!

I like the idea of using the picture as blackmail.... good thinking!! : )

  3. My supervisor is always saying, "Be amused." I never really thought about it much until she said it several times but I've realized it's much better to be amused that get upset!
