Life was starting to get a little dull around here (right!), so Renae and I decided to create a little excitement...but not in a good way. Like mother, like daughter we both had moments that were less than brilliant and got burned as a result. Literally.
Renae lives to be my little helper most days, so while I was making dinner one evening, she was standing on a chair near me at the counter. While I went to drain the pasta (or whatever else I was cooking), she took that ever so brief moment to stick her hand on the high heat stove burner. Luckily she retracted her hand quickly, but not before getting some nice little burns across her palm, thumb, and every fingertip. It looked okay for the most part, and we tried keeping some ice on it for a while, but she mostly responded to tylenol drops and a popsicle. A few hours later, though, she had developed several lovely blisters on her hand. She still calls it her owie hand three weeks later, despite the fact that it's mostly healed.
This was taken just about an hour after her hand got burned. Her hand blistered up pretty well later on, but we don't have a picture of that.
Then, last week, I decided to make homemade mac and cheese for the kids for lunch. As I was melting butter on the stove and mixing some flour into it, Renae decided to have an accident on the floor (she's potty training right now). So, I walked away from the stove to deal with that mess. Then I smelled it burning, so I hurried back to the kitchen and pulled the melted butter mess off the stove. As I was stirring it to determine if it was salvageable, a nice big spoonful of the goop landed on my foot. I immediately put my foot in the sink (not easy for someone 6 1/2 months pregnant, I might add) and turned on the cold water. Like Renae, it didn't look too bad at first, but a few hours later, I had lots of blisters on my foot in a cute splatter pattern. Did I mention that it stung like crazy??? Also like Renae, tylenol and an ice pack were my saving graces. It's getting better, but still looks pretty gnarly and makes wearing shoes almost unbearable at times. The worst part is when I've had my foot propped up for a while and then stand up and have blood rushing to my foot. That little extra pressure creates some rather horrible pain in my foot. I'd rather give birth without an epidural than get another burn like this one again!
Ouch. Sorry Becca, that stinks. Hope it heals quickly.
ReplyDeleteNo fun. I hope you both are feeling much better now. My niece put her hand right on their wood burning stove and had to go the hospital it was so bad. She never did it again and I'm sure Renae won't either!
