My Gratitude Countdown

A few years ago, I got sick of my kids going crazy about the start of the Christmas season in early November.  I mean, I have no problem with listening to Christmas music starting in September, but I happen to LOVE Thanksgiving, too.  I love everything about it.  What's not to love about a holiday that's all about gratitude?  For me, November has always been a great time to just slow down time and appreciate all of the amazingness (not a real word, right??) around me.

In order to encourage the same love for gratitude in my children, I really wanted to do something to make the Thanksgiving season (aka November) more about gratitude than creating Christmas lists.  We started a tradition two or three years ago where we draw a gratitude statement out of a basket and do the corresponding activity every day leading up to Thanksgiving.  Well, the first 25 days in November at least.  Somehow that's all I ended up with way back when I made this!

I heavily relied on the Cricut and Mod Podge to cut out and affix the letters, circles, and numbers to the canvas panel.  I cut out small magnets and stuck one just beneath each circle.  Then I printed out the activities to be done each day and laminated/cut them out and put small magnets on the back of those.  Here are the activities we have planned!  I based my ideas on ones from this website.  Feel free to borrow from me, too!  Just click the download button below the activity list to download the zip file.  It contains the JPG and PSD versions of the list, in case you'd like to customize it in Photoshop to suit your family's situation.

This morning Renae selected the "I Am Grateful for My Siblings" activity from the basket.  The kids were supposed to be kind to each other to show their gratitude for having such great siblings.  That wasn't really the outcome today, but I decided to participate in the activity.  I am so grateful for my siblings!  I love all of our quirks.  I love all of our inside jokes.  I love how even though we were rats to each other while we were kids, we can look back now and laugh at all of our petty squabbles.
