Opportunity For Service

I loved listening/watching Conference this past weekend!  Even though my kids and my sister's kids (we were both at our parents' house) didn't really want to be as quiet or cooperative as we would have liked, I did manage to catch President Monson's wonderful talk on service.  I really felt inspired to think less often about how I can make my life better/easier and to think more often of how I can help others.  We're going to be doing FHE on Thursday this week because that's the only evening Brandon will be home this week, and I was planning on doing a service lesson/activity, but hadn't figured out what to do for an activity just yet.  So, I was delighted when I was going through my blog reader to discover that a family friend from the ward I grew up in was teaming up with her little girl to be of service to the people of Afghanistan in a project called "We Care".  She is asking that each of her friends take the time to fill up one large flat rate priority box with used toys, school supplies, children's clothing, blankets, men's clothing, etc. to send to Afghanistan to be distributed to the orphans and others in need there.  These boxes ship for only about $11, which I think is a pretty great deal, so we're going to be doing that for our FHE activity on Thursday.  If you feel so inclined, I encourage you to participate as well!  Please read the rest of the details on my friend's blog here for specific items to send and for the address to send the box to.  Please also note that due to cultural sensitivity, do not include women's clothing or Christian/religious items or batteries.  Thanks to those of you who participate!

  1. A Thank You seems so small for how I am feeling, but...Thank you so much. May you and your wonderful family be so blessed for your charity and kindness in serving others.

  2. Becca I LOVE this idea. My ward has been looking for something service oriented to do for Christmas and looking at this I thought this could be perfect. It allows EVERYONE of every age to perticipate. Do you think you could ask your friend if they would still be wanting these types of boxes around December and if her brother would be willing to still accept the packages. It think we could get quite a few boxes together.
