Another Renae Update...Good News!

We took Renae in last week for an EEG (brain waves), an EKG (heartbeat),  a CBC (blood count), and a pediatric neurology visit.  It was a busy week!  And the diagnosis is.....she has breath holding spells!  Well, duh.  The neurologist was a bit surprised that Renae has so many breath holding spells, so she ordered the EKG and CBC to rule out any heart interference and to see if her anemia has worsened.  The EEG came back normal, but we haven't heard on the EKG or blood tests, so I'm assuming no news is good news.  The neurologist is seeing her again in two months to see how she's progressing.  The good news is that the seizures associated with breath holding spells are not supposed to last very long and don't cause any brain damage.  However, if she does have one that lasts longer than 5 minutes, we are to call the neurology department at Children's Hospital immediately after giving Renae her seizure medicine.  She hasn't had any noticeable seizures in the last week, though she was a bit dramatic and passed out about 10 times today.  That's REALLY annoying!  The most difficult thing for me to figure out in all of this is how much attention to give Renae when she passes out so that she doesn't think she needs to pass out whenever she doesn't get her way.  It's a fine line there.  All in all, though, our little girl is healthy and continues to meet her milestones ahead of schedule, so we're not to really worry about any developmental delays resulting from these dumb breath holding spells!

  5. Rebecca... You really need to get in touch with my step sister. Her name is Jana Fish. You can find her through my friends like on facebook but she has been working through a lot of this too. Her oldest son Parker has been dealing with seizures recently too and she would be a good person to talk to. If you want more of her contact information let me know. I think you guys would really get along and from one mother to another I think you would have good things to stare with each other.

Let me know if you want me to talk to her!!!
