This Could Be Interesting...
Three weeks ago Brandon was called into the bishop's office, and shortly thereafter came to find me in the Primary class I was in to let me know that he wanted to meet with both of us after church. I was thinking, "maybe Brandon's going to be released as scoutmaster!" (I really have no problem with him being scoutmaster, but it can be time-consuming, and I love having him around.) So, after church, Brandon, the kids, and I went into the bishop's office. The kids immediately started running all over the place in there, but since I figured he wanted to talk with Brandon, I payed more attention to the kids than I did to the bishop, until he said, "Sister Brooks, we would like to extend you a calling." That got my full attention! I had been serving as a teacher in Primary for 2.5 years and loved it, but I was feeling out of the Relief Society loop. Then he said that they'd like to call me as the 2nd counselor in the Relief Society Presidency and that I would be over Relief Society Meetings (formerly Enrichment). I was fairly speechless because I DEFINITELY was NOT expecting that. When I was in college, I'd served as a RS counselor and a RS president, and when I was released, my bishop back then told me that the work I'd done in RS would prepare me to serve in a similar capacity when I was older. I had just assumed he meant when I was MUCH older! Or at least out of my 20's. Like I said, I was finding it hard to say anything because I was so surprised, and Brandon told me later that he was thinking that I was going to turn the calling down because of the expression I had on my face. Of course, I accepted it, though, and am looking forward to being able to get to know more of the women in my ward. The funny thing is that my mom was called the same day to be the 1st counselor in her RS Presidency and would be over RS Meetings, too!

ReplyDeleteP.S. How are you feeling these days?
Oh wow, congrats! How exciting to have that calling, and you are so creative. You'll do great with the enrichment meetings.
ReplyDeleteYou will do great. Your were great in RS in College you'll be great now.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I'm on the enrichment committee as well (I can't stop calling it that). You'll do great! My mom is the RS president where she lives and before I was in enrichment I was on the compassionate service committee. I'd really love Primary! Jealous you were in there for so long!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new calling! I love Relief Society.
I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall in your Bishops office and see your face as the call was extended. You looked pretty overwhelmed/speechless in the hall!
