We Like to Keep Things Exciting Around Here

I will be doing an updates post really soon, but I thought I'd share some of our more exciting medical adventures in this post because I have pictures.

Brandon:
Last week he had foot surgery to remove the neuroma (inflamed nerve) that has been a pain in the foot for the last 3 years.  It was a little much for me to be in the same room as Brandon and his doctor, as they seem to share a similar bizarre sense of humor.  They were drawing diagrams on his foot of which toes to remove and which to stitch together.  Fortunately, Brandon came out of the surgery just fine...only minus one neuroma.

Rebecca:
I've never had much luck with morning sickness in either of my two previous pregnancies, so I wasn't surprised to find myself feeling pretty lousy and a little too familiar with the bathroom.  I was, however, surprised to find that while looking at Renae one morning, I couldn't see Nicholas...and he was sitting right next to her.  So, I made an appointment with the OB to make sure everything was ok.  I have had vision loss while pregnant with both Nicholas and Renae, but those times were during the 3rd trimester, not the 1st.  The doctor said that such vision loss is often related to sudden drops in blood pressure or blood sugar. Neither of those would have surprised me with how little I'd been able to eat or keep down.  So, she prescribed me a little Zofran, which hasn't been miraculous by any means, but also has helped me to limit my 1st trimester weight loss to 8 lbs, rather than the 15 that I lost with Renae.

Nicholas:
3 weeks ago, Nicholas was being a little rascal and was climbing on the arm of the couch and then jumping onto the couch.  When I saw what he was doing, I told him to immediately get down because he might fall and hurt his head.  Well, he fell and hit his head...hard.  There were no bumps and his pupils seemed fine, and he was soon calmly watching a cartoon with ice on his head.  Within an hour, though, he was complaining of a headache, so I gave him some tylenol.  Then he started screaming and couldn't get comfortable anywhere to take a nap.  And then he threw up all over the couch, a blanket, and me.  That's when we called the doctor and scheduled an appointment for two hours later.  He slept while cradled in my arms for almost an hour and was terribly clingy.  Of course by the time we arrived at the doctor's office, he was mostly concerned about getting a lollipop and some stickers.  The doctor told me that it seemed like Nicholas had a mild concussion, but appeared to be doing okay and that I should only need to have a follow-up if Nicholas complained of a headache.  That kid!

Renae:
Nothing to report, other than she's sassier than usual these days.  She's also turning 2 in a month, so that doesn't surprise me.
