Updates: Renae Edition

My little Princess Renae is growing much too quickly!  (Literally.  She went from a size 3T to a 4T in about 3 months...before she was even 3!)  When Nicholas was a baby, we couldn't wait for him to meet all the milestones, but with Renae, I was really content to just enjoy each stage as it came.  Now that Seth is here, I just want to push pause on all of them because they are all growing up so fast!

Renae is a girl with more personality than we often know what to do with!  Brandon and I like to say that some poor kid out there is lacking in the personality department because Renae got a double portion.  She likes to channel her Irish heritage when it comes to her spitfire temper.  One minute she is the sweetest girl you've ever met, but the second that you cross her, you have my deepest sympathies!  However, just as quickly as her temper comes, it's gone, and she returns to her sweet self.  Equal amounts of sugar and spice.

These days, Renae is all about Rapunzel.  Here's a conversation at the dinner table last week:
Renae: Mommy, after dinner I want to play.
Me: Okay.  What do you want to do?
Renae: I'll reread the books, if I have time to spare.  I'll paint the walls some more; I'm sure there's room somewhere.  Then I'll brush and brush and brush and brush my hair.  (These are lyrics from a song in Tangled.)
The funny thing about this conversation is that she was completely serious.  Her voice was no different than if she had said, "I think I'll play with my dolls now."

Renae is also my little sidekick.  She loves to help with Seth, and she has even become quite adept at fastening his diapers.  I've even found diapers correctly fastened onto dolls and stuffed animals, so she's becoming quite the little mommy.

I had a lot of fun with her working in the garden this year.  I've tried to get Nicholas interested in my plants, but with limited success.  Renae, however, has picked it up nicely!  She can identify carrots, lettuce, beans, peas, tomatoes, peppers (bell vs. jalapenos), strawberries, sunflowers, catmint, daisies, and lilies.  She loves to dig in the dirt more than Nicholas ever has, and it makes my heart swell with pride to see my little gardener in action!

Renae has also become quite good at using the computer, recognizing some letters, remembering story lines, telling stories, telling jokes, changing her wardrobe 5 times a day, making up dances and in general keeping us smiling at all of her antics!

Even though we still do Mommy School around here, we don't do it as often as I would like.  Life happens, right?  But, I did move our tv back into our bedroom so that I wouldn't be tempted to keep it on so much during the day (and so that I can fall asleep with it on when Brandon's gone...more about that in a different post).  Ever since I did that, the kids have been much more inclined to color, play make believe things, and look at books.  Renae even came up to me today and said, "Mommy!  I can write letters!  What letter is this?"  She couldn't remember which letter this was, but she sure knew how to write it.

We count ourselves blessed to be the parents of this little girl!
